Check Out How to Maintain Your Polished Concrete Floors at Home

As a homeowner, you know that while concrete is a strong, durable, versatile, and cost-effective material, it’s not perfect. Over time, concrete can develop cracks, unevenness, and stains. Thankfully, you can counter such unsightly issues.

An excellent way to enhance your concrete floor’s look and lifespan is to use residential home concrete polishing from a company like ours. At Concrete Poxy 101, we use the best dust-free grinding tools to reach the desired smoothness. Our polishing machines have diamond-impregnated disks, with diamonds imported from Finland and Sweden, to remove pits, blemishes, and stains from the floor.

After grinding, we apply a high-quality sealing solution to the floor to fill any cracks and holes. Although these tiny holes aren’t hazardous, they’re visible and unsightly and hurt the floor’s aesthetic. Moreover, the sealant also adds to the water and scratch-resistant properties of the polished concrete.

Finally, we begin polishing. We apply fine grits to give your floor a glossy finish — the level of glossiness depends on the grit’s strength. After we’re done, your concrete floor will shine like a mirror and impress your family and friends alike.

Interestingly, many people mistakenly assume that polished concrete is slipperier than regular concrete because it looks so slick. On the contrary, polished concrete has excellent slip resistance thanks to enhanced traction from the grinding.

One of the best things about a polished concrete floor is that it’s effortless to clean. Here are some easy tips to help you:

1. Let it Settle

After your polished concrete floor is ready, it’s best to wait three days for the sealers to cure before you try to clean it. After three days, feel free to wipe your concrete floor if you need to.

2. Set the Right Schedule

For best results, set the right cleaning schedule for your polished concrete floor. How often you clean it depends on how often it’s used — if it rarely sees traffic, then you may need to mop it once a week, depending on the amount of dust in the room. If it sees heavy traffic every day, then you may need to sweep more regularly. Even so, a polished floor is straightforward to clean — dust will easily glide off your polished concrete floor.

3. Use Gentle Cleaning Tools

It’s critical to use gentle cleaning tools for your polished concrete floor, like a good microfiber cloth. Usually, a simple mop and a bucket of water are enough to leave it looking just as shiny as the day it was polished by the professional team at Concrete Poxy 101. You can also use a microfiber cleaning cloth or soft pads. Avoid heavy or rough brushes and automatic cleaning tools as they are just unnecessary.

4. Don’t Use Other Chemicals

If you drop coffee, red wine, soda, orange juice, lemon juice, or any other liquid on your polished floor, quickly clean up the spill with a mop and water. Don’t use abrasive cleaning chemicals or degreasers on the floor.

While water is the best tool, you can use a pH-neutral cleaning formula if you need to.

  • Mix a gallon of warm water with 1/4th cup of a gentle pH-neutral liquid dish detergent
  • Use a mop to swish the mixture until suds develop
  • Lift the mop from your bucket and twist it to release excess water
  • Mop the floor with broad and even strokes

In addition, don’t apply wax as it would just lead to waste. Trust us — with some easy cleaning; your polished floor will shine like a mirror every day.
